Samantha Orissa Blue (ORISSA BLUE, SAMANTHA) is a fine- to medium-grained, directionally oriented Precambrian gneiss quarried at Berhampur (Brahmapur), Odisha (Orissa), India. Sold commercially as 'granite' despite being petrographically a gneiss (metamorphic). DNSA #3754 lists ORISSA BLUE and SAMANTHA as trade names for the same stone -- no technical data. SC s3881 (Samantha Blue Granite, Orissa) provides technical data: density 2700 kg/m³, compressive strength 147.7 MPa, flexural strength 12.0-13.9 MPa, water absorption 0.24%. SC s3763 (Orion Blue, Brahmapur/Orissa) gives a higher comp range (182.9-188.4 MPa) and may be a related variant. Characteristic blue coloration makes this a popular decorative stone.
