Über Golden Oak

Golden Oak, also marketed as SHIVA GOLD, is a Precambrian metamorphic gneiss quarried in the Thogamalai / Trichy area of Tamil Nadu, India. DNSA Stein 4887 confirms the petrographic classification as gneiss (Gneis) — the stone is widely sold in the trade as 'Golden Oak Granite', which is a commercial misnomer. It is medium-grained with a layered, directionally oriented fabric and warm gold, beige, and grey tones. DNSA provides a full technical profile: density 2621 kg/m³, compressive 208.2 MPa, flexural 15.6 MPa, WA 0.45%, thermal expansion 0.78 mm/m/100K. It is acid-resistant and frost-resistant per DNSA. Suitable for both interior and exterior applications including countertops, flooring, wall cladding, and paving. SC source-6 (Gold Oak Limestone from Jerusalem) is an unrelated stone and has been excluded.
