Über Kashmir White

Kashmir White — also traded as Kaschmir White or Kashmir Bahia (in Brazil) — is a granulite from southern India (Tamil Nadu/Karnataka), a metamorphic rock composed predominantly of quartz, feldspar, and garnet, with characteristic dark garnet and biotite specks set against a white to light grey ground. Despite frequent commercial labelling as 'granite', it is petrographically a granulite. DNSA #3580 classifies it as Granulite from India, with density 2700 kg/m3 and compressive strength 174-202 MPa. Not to be confused with New Kashmir White (DNSA #4205, also Indian granulite from Tamil Nadu) or Brazilian Kashmir (DNSA #6273, Branco Himalaia Alasca, Migmatite). Kashmir White is one of the most popular white decorative granites in global trade.
