Picasso (trade name; also marketed as MAGPIE) is a Precambrian anorthosite quarried near Magpie in the Côte-Nord region of Quebec, Canada. Anorthosite is a coarse-to-medium grained plutonic igneous rock composed predominantly of plagioclase feldspar. DNSA registers this stone as 'MAGPIE' with 'PICASSO' as a synonym (Stein Nr. 5297). The stone is isotropic (non-directional) with fine to medium grain. The DNSA cautions that some mineral components are not permanently acid-resistant — important to note despite the stone being plutonic. Full DNSA technical profile: density 2674 kg/m³, compressive 161.6 MPa, flexural 14.09 MPa, WA 0.13%. Frost-resistant. Polished finish is only conditionally durable outdoors per DNSA. The 'Quartzite' group label in the input queue is a market convention — DNSA correctly classifies this as an igneous plutonic rock (anorthosite).
