Über Blue Eyes

Blue Eyes is a Precambrian medium-grained anorthosite quarried on Paul Island in the Nain area of Labrador, Canada. The rock is classified as anorthosite (Anorthosit), a plutonic intrusive rock dominated by feldspar (labradorite/andesine). The characteristic grey-blue base colour is accented by the iridescent blue schiller effect (labradorescence) from the feldspar crystals. Both DNSA 3760 and SC s5058 confirm the Paul Island/Nain/Labrador origin. Technical data from DNSA 3760: density 2690 kg/m³, compressive strength 225 MPa, flexural strength 22.1 MPa, water absorption 0.18%. Polishable; polish only partly durable outdoors. Frost resistant. Some mineral components not fully acid resistant — neutral or alkaline cleaning agents recommended. Suitable as flooring. SC s5058 corroborates the tech data with near-identical values.
