Über Angola Moon Luanda

Angola Moon Luanda — commercially also known as Labrador d'Angola, Angola Blue, Angola Black, Blue Moon, Moonlight, and Memphis Night — is a Precambrian anorthosite from the Lubango area of Huíla Province, southern Angola. Despite widespread trade use of 'granite' and 'Luanda' in its name, it is petrographically an anorthosite (plagioclase-dominated plutonic rock) quarried near what was formerly called Sá da Bandeira, not the Angolan capital Luanda. The stone is known for its dramatic blue schiller effect (labradorescence) on a dark grey-black background, produced by light scattering within the labradorite plagioclase crystals. DNSA (entry 697) provides a full technical profile with high confidence. Exterior polish is conditionally durable; individual mineral components are not permanently acid-resistant.
