Favaco (CINZENTO FAVACO, PRETO CM, NEGRO TULIPA) is a fine-grained, largely isotropic Carboniferous diorite quarried at Sao Vicente e Ventosa near Elvas, Alentejo, Portugal. DNSA #5005 data: density 2851 kg/m³, compressive strength 126.2 MPa (frost 96.4 MPa), flexural strength 21.4 MPa, water absorption 0.21%, porosity 0.6%, thermal expansion 0.67 mm/m/100K. Mineralogy: 56% plagioclase, 19% hornblende, 14% biotite, 8% quartz -- classic diorite composition. Polish possible and durable outdoors. Acid-resistant (normal conditions). Frost-resistant. Available but rarely used in Germany (DNSA). SC s9965 (Cinzento de Favaco Granite, Portugal) corroborates identity.
