Azul Cristal (DNSA primary name: GUIMARAES; also Cristal Azul, Cristal Cinza, Azul de Guimarães) is a coarse- to very coarse-grained plutonic granite quarried at Costa, Guimarães, northeast of Porto, Portugal. The stone dates to the Carboniferous and is widely available — DNSA notes it is very frequently used in Germany. The DNSA provides a complete technical profile: density 2680 kg/m³, compressive 165 MPa, frost compressive 125.4 MPa, flexural 15.9 MPa, water absorption 0.19%, porosity 0.52%, thermal expansion 0.7 mm/m/100K, abrasion 0.2 (Italian norm). The stone is frost-resistant, acid-resistant, suitable for flooring, and polished finish is durable outdoors. SC sources corroborate density, flexural, and water absorption values.
