Über Veria Green
Veria Green (DNSA #1418: VERMION GRÜN / VERDE VERIA / EMERALD GREEN, Vermion-Gebirge/Veria, Greece) is a Cretaceous serpentinite quarried in the Vermion mountain range near Veria in northern Greece (Central Macedonia). Commercially classified as marble due to its polish suitability. Brecciated (brekziös-knollig) texture with a distinctive green matrix interrupted by white calcite veins and dark serpentinite nodules. DNSA technical data: density 2700 kg/m3, compressive 96.3 MPa, abrasion (Italian norm) 2.86 mm, water absorption 0.22%. SC sources consistently confirm density 2701, compressive 94.4, flexural 19.9, water 0.22%. Partial acid sensitivity (some mineral components not permanently acid-resistant). Outdoor polish durability limited. Currently quarried; used occasionally in Germany per DNSA.
