Über Porfido Rosso
Porfido Rosso (DNSA Stein 25 and 2836) is the Permian red rhyolite porphyry quarried in the Etsch/Adige valley area of Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy -- commonly called Etsch-Porphyr. This is the most widely used Italian porphyry in Germany and throughout Central Europe, particularly for exterior paving, cobblestones, and facades. DNSA registers it as "sehr haufig eingesetzt" (very frequently used in Germany). SC s12958 (Porfido Trentino, same quarry region) corroborates most values. Frost-resistant and acid-resistant, with durable outdoor polish. Full DNSA tech profile: density 2550 kg/m3, compressive 280 MPa, flexural 24 MPa, WA 1.8%, abrasion 0.36 cm3/50cm2 (Italian norm). The WA value (1.8%) is higher than typical for a dense volcanic rock and differs from SC Porfido Trentino (0.8%); marked uncertain. Porfido Rosso Antico (Egyptian imperial porphyry, DNSA Stein 4300, Djebel Doukhan, not quarried since antiquity) is a completely different historic stone excluded from this record.
