DNSA #4303 (BASALTO DI ORVIETO, PIETRAGRIGIA DI ORVIETO) is the primary anchor: density 2678 kg/m³, compressive strength 197.2 MPa, flexural strength 23.6 MPa, water absorption 1.13%, E-modulus 45.4 GPa. Acid-resistant (moderate), frost-resistant. Only matte/honed finish achievable (no high polish). SC s12641 (Basalto di Orvieto) corroborates with matching values. Note: 'Pietra Grigia' (grey stone) is a generic Italian term shared by multiple stones including grey limestones, soapstone, and other regional greys -- this record is scoped to the Orvieto variant which is the stone DNSA associates with this trade name.
