Über Pannonia Grün gewolkt
Pannonia Grün gewolkt (GRÜNSCHIEFER, RECHNITZER GRÜNSCHIEFER, ROYAL GREEN, PANNONIA GRÜN, PANNONIA VERDE) is a Cretaceous chlorite schist (Chloritschiefer) quarried at Geschriebenstein / Rechnitz, Burgenland, Austria. 'Pannonia' refers to the historical Pannonian region (modern Burgenland); 'gewolkt' (clouded/mottled) describes the characteristic mottled green patterning. Despite being grouped commercially as 'quartzite', this is petrographically a chlorite schist (metamorphic). DNSA #5347 data: density 2930 kg/m³, compressive strength 94.8 MPa, flexural strength 19.9 MPa, water absorption 0.34%, abrasion 10.3 cm³/50cm². Frost-resistant. Only matte/honed finish achievable (no high polish). Some mineral components not permanently acid-resistant (DNSA).
