Butterfly Blue
Butterfly Blue is a Chinese blue gneiss (DNSA Stein 5320, BLUE TROPICAL) from Liangcheng, Inner Mongolia. Geologically a gneiss, commercially sold as granite. DNSA data: density 2690, comp 87.1 MPa, flex 8.2 MPa, WA 0.98% (uncertain).

Butterfly Blue (DNSA Stein 5320, primary name BLUE TROPICAL; also Farfalla Blue, Blue Valley) is a Paleozoic gneiss from Liangcheng, Inner Mongolia, China, quarried approximately 80 km from Hohhot. DNSA classifies it as gneiss (metamorphic), though it is universally sold in the stone trade as "granite." Layered, directionally oriented structure. Technical data from DNSA: density 2690 kg/m3, compressive strength 87.1 MPa, flexural strength 8.2 MPa, WA 0.98%. SC s4274 (Butterfly Blue Granite) corroborates origin and density/flex/comp. WA conflict: DNSA 0.98% vs SC 0.17%; DNSA preferred but marked uncertain. Important: DNSA Stein 5511 (BLUE BUTTERFLY, Brazilian granite from Rondonia, Macacos District) and Stein 5324 (RIO AMAZONAS, same Brazilian quarry) are different stones with different properties (density 2684, comp 122.4 MPa, WA 0.14%) and are excluded from this record.
