Über Ametista

Ametista (Italian/Portuguese for 'amethyst') is a commercial family name for purple Brazilian metamorphic hard rocks quarried in Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais. DNSA registers three closely related entries: VIOLA AMETISTA (Stein Nr. 1776 and 3926, from Araponga/Ponte Nova, MG, medium-grained gneiss with directional layering) and VIOLA AMETISTA SPECIAL / ROYAL AMETISTA (Stein Nr. 3625, from Colatina, ES, medium-to-coarse grained with irregular cloudy pattern). StoneContact lists 'Ametista Granite' (s4066, purple, Brazil) and 'Viola Ametista Granite' (s827) as confirmatory sources. Technical data from SC source-6 (Kg/cm² converted): density 2720 kg/m³, compressive 178–188 MPa, flexural ~15.9 MPa, WA 0.15%. 'Ametista Black Granite' and 'Ametista Onyx' in SC are unrelated stones using the 'Ametista' label — excluded from scope.
