Über Jura gelb
Jura Gelb gebandert is the banded (gebandert) sub-variety of Jura Gelb, the most widely used German limestone. Quarried in the Frankische Alb near Treuchtlingen, Bavaria, from Upper Jurassic strata (Malm). DNSA registers the broader stone as JURA GELB (Stein 1292 and 1294) with "gefleckt" (spotted) structure; no separate entry exists for the banded variety. Technical properties from DNSA are representative for the entire Jura Gelb family: density 2610 kg/m3, compressive strength 149 MPa, flexural strength 14.1 MPa, water absorption 1.1%, abrasion resistance 21.6-22.1 cm3/50cm2, porosity 3.7%, thermal expansion 0.70-0.72 mm/m/100K. As a calcitic limestone it is acid-sensitive. Frost resistance is partial and layer-dependent. Very widely used in Germany for flooring, wall cladding, and interior applications. Not recommended for outdoor use in exposed acid-rain conditions or as a polished exterior surface.
