Über Star Gate
African Galaxy is a Precambrian gabbro quarried in southern Africa, marketed under numerous trade names including NEW GALAXY, STAR GATE, SILVER GALAXY, AFRICAN SILVER, and AFRICAN STAR. The stone presents as a deep, uniform black with a nearly directionless (isotropic) fabric typical of intrusive gabbro. The extremely high density (3068 kg/m3) reflects the pyroxene-rich mineralogy characteristic of gabbro. DNSA #5623 records the origin as Zimbabwe with petrographic type 'Gabbro' and geological group Tiefengesteine (plutonic igneous), Precambrian age. StoneContact s8703 records the origin as Bosspruit, Rustenburg, North-West Province, South Africa — likely a geographically separate but closely related quarry within the same southern African gabbro complex. The SC aliases list includes over 15 trade names (African Silver Galaxy, African Star Galaxy, Star Gate, Stargate, Nero/Negro Stargate, Silver Galaxy, Galaxy Africano etc.) confirming this is the same stone traded under multiple names in different markets. SC technical data: density 3068 kg/m3, compressive 226.2 MPa, flexural 22.8 MPa, water absorption 0.11%. These are exceptionally high values consistent with a dense gabbro. The queue group 'Other' reflects the lack of a dedicated gabbro category in the input classification system; the stone is correctly classified as plutonic igneous (gabbro).
