Über Thassos Extra

Thassos Extra denotes the highest-quality grade of Thassos marble (DNSA Stein 2911), quarried on the Island of Thassos in northern Greece (Kavala region). The stone is a Mesozoic dolomitic marble (86% dolomite, 12% calcite, 2% quartz) from the Panagia area of Thassos. "Extra" is a commercial grade designation for the purest, brightest white material with minimal veining. DNSA provides the authoritative technical profile: density 2850 kg/m3, compressive 99.7 MPa, flexural 13.3 MPa, WA 0.23%, abrasion 6.60 cm3/50cm2. Acid-sensitive and frost-resistant. DNSA notes polished surfaces are not durable outdoors. Best suited to interior applications: wall cladding, flooring, countertops, and decorative work. Thassos is very widely used in Germany per DNSA.
