Golden Spider (DNSA: GOLDEN SPIDER, Stein 4664; aliases: PLATANOTOPOS YELLOWISH-WHITE, ARACHNIA) is a very fine-grained, veined dolomitic marble quarried at Platanotopos near Eleftereopolis in the Kavala region of East Macedonia, Greece. DNSA classifies it as Marmor, Mesozoic, metamorphic. The name refers to its characteristic dark golden-brown to yellowish-white ground colour with pronounced dark spider-web veining. The mineral composition is 95% dolomite and 5% calcite. Full DNSA technical data: density 2776 kg/m3, compressive 159.8 MPa, flexural 13.3 MPa, WA 0.20%, abrasion 3.71 cm3/50cm2. Acid-sensitive (carbonate); polished surface not durable outdoors. DNSA notes frost resistance as presumed. Suitable for interior flooring, countertops, wall cladding, and decorative elements.
