Über Teos Fire
Teos Fire (Turkish trade name TEOS ATESI, DNSA #5864) is a compact, dark Turkish limestone quarried in the Teos/Seferihisar area of Izmir province, western Turkey. Named after the ancient Greek city of Teos, whose ruins lie nearby. The stone presents as very dark to nearly black with a dense, compact structure. Commercial classification as marble (queue group) reflects trade usage rather than strict petrographic classification (the stone is a limestone). Technical data from DNSA: density 2800 kg/m3, compressive strength 80.6 MPa (85.8 MPa after frost cycle), flexural strength 16.7 MPa, water absorption 0.05%, porosity 0.2 vol.%, E-modulus 88 GPa. SC s10138 corroborates with density range 2720-2900, comp 77.7-88.78 MPa, flex 14.13-18.64 MPa, water 0.05-0.4%. The very low water absorption (0.05%) and porosity (0.2%) classify this as an extremely dense compact limestone.
