Über Otta Phyllit Pillarguri
Otta Phyllit Pillarguri (PILLARGURI, PILLARGURI SORT, PILLARGURI RUST, OTTA PHYLLIT) is a foliated Caledonian phyllite quarried at Pillarguri, near Otta in Gudbrandsdalen, Oppland, Norway. Despite being sold commercially as 'slate', it is petrographically a phyllite (metamorphic, finer-grained than schist). DNSA #5521/270/271 (all variants share identical data): density 2790 kg/m3, compressive strength 218.3 MPa (frost 230.4 MPa), flexural strength 48.6 MPa, water absorption 0.19%, abrasion 25.0 cm3/50cm2. High flexural strength reflects the strongly foliated structure. Poor abrasion resistance (25.0) limits flooring applications. Acid-resistant. Frost-resistant. Three variants: grey (standard), Sort (black), Rust (iron-oxidized brown-green).
