Über Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe J
Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe J is a Precambrian volcanic basalt from Mutoko, near Harare, Zimbabwe. The 'J' qualifier denotes a supply grade or quarry classification within the Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe stone family (other grades include C1). DNSA #4628 NERO ASSOLUTO ZIMBABWE (aliases: Zimbabwe Black, Negro Austral, Rhodesia Black) is the primary source entry covering this stone. The same entry is cross-referenced as DNSA #3360 RHODESIA BLACK. The stone is a fine-grained, largely directionless basalt of exceptional density (3040 kg/m3) and mechanical strength (compressive 228 MPa, flexural 31 MPa). Very low water absorption (0.11%) and frost resistance make it suitable for outdoor use. Deep jet-black polished surface is characteristic. Widely used in Germany under multiple trade names.
