Eramosa C C gewolkt is a specific grade of the Eramosa dolostone from Wiarton, Ontario, Canada. 'C C' is a quarry-specific colour/grade code, and 'gewolkt' (German: cloudy/mottled) describes the mottled, spotted surface pattern — corresponding to DNSA's WIARTON LIGHT (Stein 5598, trade name ERAMOSA, structure 'gefleckt'). DNSA also registers WIARTON DARK (Stein 5565) under the ERAMOSA trade name for the banded variant. Both are Silurian dolostones from the same quarry at Owen Sound, 3 km west of Wiarton, Ontario. The stone is marketed commercially as 'marble' due to its polishable surface; petrographically it is a dolostone (dolomitic limestone). Technical data (from DNSA WIARTON DARK / SC Eramosa Marble, both same quarry): density ~2643-2670 kg/m3, compressive ~144 MPa, WA 0.19%, abrasion 24.5 cm3/50cm2, flexural ~23.7 MPa. Acid-sensitive per DNSA; polish not durable outdoors.
