Calacatta Michelangelo is a premium commercial variant of Calacatta marble quarried in the Apuane Alps in the Provincia di Massa-Carrara, Tuscany, Italy. All Calacatta marbles are white metamorphic limestones (Cambrian–Jurassic) prized for their bright white background and dramatic grey or gold veining. 'Michelangelo' is a trade grade name used to distinguish a specific appearance class or quarry block type. Technical data from StoneContact (source-2, Calacatta Michelangelo Marble, s7498), corroborated by the near-identical Statuario Michelangelo entry (source-3): density 2705–2725 kg/m³, compressive strength 146.1–150 MPa, flexural strength 12.7–17.6 MPa, water absorption 0.24–0.28%. As a carbonate marble the stone is inherently acid-sensitive: not suitable for kitchen countertops or acid-exposed environments without sealing and with careful maintenance. Polish is achievable to high gloss and is generally outdoor-durable for this stone type, unlike softer calcite marbles. No DNSA entry exists specifically for 'Calacatta Michelangelo'; the nearest DNSA entries (CALACATTA VAGLI NO.1, CALACATTA VAGLI ROSATO) are related but different quarry variants.
