Über Cafe Imperial Extra
Cafe Imperial Extra is the premium grade of Cafe Imperial, a Precambrian alkaline syenite quarried in Santa Rita de Caldas, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The stone is dominated by alkali feldspar (77%) with aegirine (15%) and biotite (3%) giving it a distinctive deep coffee-brown to reddish-brown ground with metallic gold and black crystal inclusions. The 'Extra' suffix is a commercial grade/quality classifier indicating selected slabs with the most consistent colour and pattern. Technical data (DNSA Stein 3401): density 2798 kg/m³, compressive strength 114.8 MPa, frost compressive 135.8 MPa (elevated — likely due to denser post-freeze sampling), flexural strength 15.3 MPa, water absorption 0.39%, porosity 1.10%, thermal expansion 0.86 mm/m/100K, abrasion resistance 0.90 (Italian norm). Polished finish is possible and outdoor-durable. Acid-resistant and frost-resistant. Widely used for kitchen countertops, wall and floor cladding, stairs, and decorative applications.
