Über Onyx Arco Iris

Onyx Arco Iris — 'arco iris' is Spanish for rainbow — is a commercial trade name for a banded Quaternary onyx quarried in Mexico, principally from Zacatecas and Oaxaca. DNSA has three entries under this name: Stein 1823 (Zacatecas, Mexico), Stein 1529 (Mont Alban/Oaxaca, Mexico), and Stein 2819 (Pakistan). SC source-7 (Arco Iris Onyx, s8118, Zacatecas, Mexico) is the primary specific match. Kilimanjaro Onyx (Tanzania) incidentally lists 'Onix Arco Iris' as an alternative name but is an unrelated stone. The stone is typically warm-toned: orange, honey, gold, brown and white bands in a translucent matrix. As a carbonate onyx it is acid-sensitive. No numerical technical data is available from DNSA or SC — typical for decorative onyx stones. Best suited for decorative interior applications: backlit wall panels, feature elements, countertops, ornamental objects.
