Aurora Finnland, officially known as AURORA in DNSA and also sold as Mäntsälä and Scanflame, is a migmatite quarried near Mäntsälä, north of Helsinki, Finland. Migmatites are Precambrian metamorphic rocks that have undergone partial melting, giving them a mixed metamorphic-igneous character. The stone is medium-grained with an irregularly clouded (gewolkt) structure -- alternating lighter and darker zones create the characteristic cloud-like patterns. The mineralogy (60% plagioclase, 24% quartz, 9% hornblende, 7% biotite) is gabbroic-to-tonalitic in composition, producing dark grey to grey-black tones. DNSA records it as widely used in Germany. Technical data: density 2700 kg/m3, compressive strength 210 MPa, flexural 14.7 MPa, water absorption 0.21%. Polish durable outdoors, acid and frost resistant.
