New Imperial Red is a trade name listed in DNSA #4076 (NEW RUBY RED), a medium-grained Indian granite quarried in Ilkal, northwest of Bellary (Karnataka). Other DNSA trade names: NEW RUBY RED, NEW RUBIN, NOVO RUBINO. The stone has a largely isotropic (directionless) texture. It is Precambrian in age and belongs to the plutonic igneous group. Technical data from SC s567: compressive strength 217.3 MPa, density 2625 kg/m3, flexural strength 23 MPa, water absorption 0.12%. The combination of high compressive strength and very low water absorption makes it suitable for both interior and exterior applications.
