Über New Imperial Red
New Imperial Red is a trade name listed in DNSA #4076 (NEW RUBY RED), a medium-grained Indian granite quarried in Ilkal, northwest of Bellary (Karnataka). Other DNSA trade names: NEW RUBY RED, NEW RUBIN, NOVO RUBINO. The stone has a largely isotropic (directionless) texture. It is Precambrian in age and belongs to the plutonic igneous group. Technical data from SC s567: compressive strength 217.3 MPa, density 2625 kg/m3, flexural strength 23 MPa, water absorption 0.12%. The combination of high compressive strength and very low water absorption makes it suitable for both interior and exterior applications. Not to be confused with Universal Red Granite (s19543) or Fire Red Granite (s16433), different stones that appeared in the SC keyword search.
